Is it ok to paint brick?
Most of the building in Calgary are clad with vinyl, stucco or wood but, you will often see brickwork too. Brickwork is often used for building exteriors and as siding but, is more common place inside as sills and fireplaces. Due to the composition of bricks, colour will often differ and not work well with specific interior design ideas and trends. The solution? PAINT THE BRICK.

Then, comes the brick painting prep.
Prepping your brick for painting: cleaning the brick takes some elbow-grease. Get out some brushes and rags and be sure to clean out all those crevasses. And always tend to any caulking that needs attention too. With any painting job, prime first! A masonry bonding masonry primer is what you should get. Coat the brick with this primer, let it dry completely and then you can begin to paint. Regular paint will often allow moisture to get trapped inside. With brick being a porous material, you'll often end up with cracking or flaking in the mortar. Yuck! Even worse, you could see some of the paint bubble. Avoid this with proper brick painting preparation and quality products. What does that mean? Use only masonry or brick paint which is designed specifically to let vapors move through the brick. Then, water retention isn't an issue.
